Easy Inexpensive Wall Decor You Can DIY

I needed wall art for my gallery wall to mix with our family pictures, but I didn’t want to go out and buy anything.  Wall decor can be expensive and I didn’t want to hunt and hunt and not find anything I liked.  What’s a girl supposed to do?  I made my own!

Don’t Forget to Pin for Later!

First I cruised Pinterest for inspiration.  If you search for printable wall art a whole host of things will come up.  Lots of bloggers offer free printable art they have created if you opt in to their newsletter.  You can see how I used printable art I downloaded in The Christmas Sparkle Home Tour and the Festive Fall Home Tour.  I didn’t find anything that struck my fancy so I had to look elsewhere.

I went to my favorite free stock photo site, Kaboom Pics.  I found just what I was looking for.  On free stock photo sites you are allowed to use their photos for personal use, you just can’t sell them.  I love this picture of a vintage typewriter, don’t you?

I saved the free stock photo of the typewriter and edited it to black and white in the photo app on my Mac. Then uploaded it into Canva.com and added the wording.  Canva is a great tool for making printables, it is super easy to use and they have a free and paid version depending on what you need.    It totally fits my style and I just love the saying “Home is where your story begins”, so I added it using the Albertsthal typewriter font that I downloaded from DaFont.com.  Totally free for personal use.

Once I had it the way I wanted it, I printed it on card stock using my printer. The only cost for this project was the new white 8 x 10 frame I purchased for $4.  What?!  Yes you heard me right….$4!

Easy.  Inexpensive.  DIY.   This project checks off all the boxes.  This isn’t the first time I have made my own wall decor, check out the great pair I made for our bathroom in the $100 Room Makeover Challenge. Do you think you will try making your own wall decor?  I would love to hear what you have made in the comments below!

I am joining some of my blogging friends to bring you this month’s edition of The Inspired Maker’s Challenge.  The project this month was a DIY that didn’t cost more than $10.  I definitely kept it under budget and I scored a great piece of artwork for my gallery wall.  Now if I could just get it all hung up on the wall, sigh… that will have to wait for another weekend (insert winky emoji).

The typewriter pic looks great converted to just black & white instead of colour. It suits the theme of the picture.
