The Forgotten Living Room Reveal: ORC Week 7

Blog, DIY

EEEEK!!!  It is finally here!  Week 7!  Reveal week!  I am a little excited, can you tell?!  I feel like I am in an episode on HGTV, only I am living here and not handing it off to the new owner.

7 weeks of hard work, carpel tunnel, painted clothes, and deliveries has resulted in a room that I just stand in the doorway and stare at.  This is my room, done entirely by myself and entirely in my own style (sorry hubby!).

Living room makeover, One Room Challenge week 1

To catch you up if you are just joining us, the One Room Challenge is a bi-annual event organized and hosted by Linda at Calling it Home and media partner House Beautiful.  20 featured participants and 200+ guest participants join in the madness and make over a room of their choice in JUST 6 weeks.  6 weeks, my friends!  Although this time around our host graciously added an extra week due to the hurricanes and wild fires that have plagued the US the last couple of months.

This year two guest participants will be chosen to be featured participants for the spring ORC…I am on pins and needles!!!!

AND….

As a complete surprise to all of us last week we found out that one lucky participant will be picked to be featured on Andy and Candis Meredith’s network on FB…a girl can dream…..

How it Started

2 months ago while chatting with a friend, she suggested I join in and do this challenge, after about a half a second I said yes!  I am so glad I did.  That only left me a few weeks to formulate a plan, figure out a budget and get the hubby on board.

He grudgingly agreed, as long as my projects didn’t turn into his projects and so, my very first one room challenge began.  I am proud to report that I did this all by myself with help only painting the doors and hanging up the blind.

This project was also done with no brand sponsors (3 weeks before post 1 was due was a little late in the game to try and get any brands to sponsor me) and so all the cost came out of my own pocket.  I did however snag that great rug at a discount from Wayfair by signing up for their trade program and I received free shipping from Hayneedle on those lovely lumbar pillows.

How do you do an entire room on a small budget?  DIY my friends and shopping your own home…mostly (insert winky emoji)  Catch up on all the challenge’s adventures in Week 1: The Plan I Week 2: Painting Doors and Trim I Week 3: How to Survive a Reno Stress Free I Week 4: Board and Batten Solo in Just 3 Days I Week 5: My Love Affair with Blue I and Week 6: How to Turn a Picture into a Mirror.

The great little table from my inspiration board, I was so happy when I found it scrolling Amazon!  The plant is still alive after 3 weeks in my care (hopefully he will have a long and happy life in front of that window) and I brought this rocking chair back because the wing back chair couldn’t be done in time.

I had so much fun mixing all of the patterns of pillows and throws…a true eclectic balance of color and pattern.  The room is now filled with so much personality, texture and light!

The shelf my hubby made came back and it looks great against the gray wall.  Each and every piece of decor on that shelf was shopped from our home except that awesome wooden pineapple.  When I say I have stash, I mean I.Have.A.Stash

The chair fabric was painted with fusion mineral paint in mustard yellow to match the yellow in the rug.  The steer head was purchased from Target’s new Project 62 line and the vintage poster in the upper left was the first piece of art I bought for my very first apartment…it truly is vintage, haha!

This was a grueling 7 weeks, but so worth it in the end!  Thank you for following along with the madness, your support means the world to me!

I wonder if I can talk the hubby into doing the Spring ORC challenge with me?  What do you think?

Oh my gosh Girl, this room is fantastic. That RUG!!! It really grounds the room and using that as your color inspiration for different pieces (like the chairs) around the room is perfect. I love your restyled shelves on the wall over the sofa, and angling it in the corner is more inviting. It’s such a great space and your gallery wall with your first grown up picture 🙂 is awesome!! I bet your hubby is proud of you and I’m sure he’ll be on board for the next room 🙂
